SEND Provision
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Provision
At Potton Pre-School, we are proud to offer an inclusive, welcoming environment where every child is valued and supported to achieve their full potential. We are committed to identifying and meeting the needs of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) through a personalised, child-centred approach.
Our Commitment
We believe that every child is unique and deserves access to high-quality learning experiences. Our provision is guided by the principles of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. We work in close partnership with families, specialist services, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for all children.
Identification and Support
Through careful observation and assessment, we are able to identify children who may need additional support. If a child is identified as having a special educational need or disability, we will:
Work closely with families to create an Individual Support Plan (ISP) with clear, achievable targets.
Provide differentiated activities, resources, and support based on the child's individual needs.
Offer small group or one-to-one support where appropriate.
Make reasonable adjustments to our environment and teaching approaches.
Regularly review and adapt strategies to ensure continued progress and development.
Our SEND Team
Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (Holly Gabbitas):
Oversees the support and progress of children with SEND.
Acts as a key contact for parents, carers, and external professionals.
Ensures that all staff are supported and trained to meet a wide range of needs.
Coordinates involvement with external specialists where required.
Partnership with Families
We recognise that parents and carers are the experts in their child’s development. We work collaboratively, maintaining regular, open communication to ensure that families are fully involved in planning and reviewing support for their child.
Families are also encouraged to access additional information and resources through the Central Bedfordshire Council SEND Local Offer, which outlines the range of services and support available for children and young people with SEND aged 0-25. More information can be found here: https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/localoffer/
Working with External Professionals
We work closely with a range of external specialists, including speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, and occupational therapists, to ensure that children with additional needs receive tailored support. We are committed to early intervention and multi-agency working to promote the best outcomes for every child.
Accessibility
We strive to ensure that our setting is fully accessible to all children. We make reasonable adaptations to the physical environment and learning experiences to ensure that every child can participate fully and confidently.
Transition Support
Transitions can be a significant time for any child, and we provide additional support for children with SEND when moving into our setting, moving between rooms, or transitioning on to school. We work closely with families and new settings to provide tailored transition plans to support each child’s individual journey.
