Activities at the Nest
Wraparound Care Activities
At the Nest, our Wraparound Care provision offers a supportive, engaging environment for children aged 3 to 11 years before and after the school/pre-school day. We are committed to providing high-quality care that balances relaxation, creativity, and structured activities, supporting children's social, emotional, and academic development.
Before School Provision
Our morning sessions offer a calm and welcoming start to the day. Children are greeted warmly and encouraged to participate in a range of quiet activities designed to prepare them for the day ahead. Activities include:
Independent reading and story sharing
Mindful colouring and drawing
Board games and construction toys
A healthy breakfast option to fuel their learning
Children in YR to Y3 are accompanied to the Roots office of the Primary school and met by school staff and children in Y4 to Y6 walk independently to their classrooms, ready for a positive start to their school day.
After School Provision
Our after-school sessions provide a relaxed, stimulating environment where children can unwind, socialise, and engage in a variety of activities. Our programme includes:
Homework Support: A dedicated quiet area is available for children wishing to complete homework tasks. Staff are on hand to provide encouragement and basic guidance as needed.
Creative Activities: Children have opportunities to engage in arts and crafts, construction, and imaginative play.
Physical Play: Access to outdoor areas and indoor physical games ensures children have opportunities to be active and develop their gross motor skills.
Board Games and Puzzles: A wide range of age-appropriate games and puzzles are available, promoting critical thinking, cooperation, and problem-solving skills.
Group Games and Team Challenges: Organised activities foster teamwork, communication, and social development.
Free Play: Children are also given time for self-directed play, enabling them to relax, explore, and pursue their own interests.
Pre-School Provision
We believe that the early years are a critical time in a child’s development, and by welcoming children from the age of three, we can provide:
A gentle, age-appropriate transition into a structured early years setting
A warm, nurturing, and play-based learning environment, led by experienced and caring staff
Opportunities to build early friendships, social skills, and independence
A strong foundation for school readiness, including language, emotional development, and early numeracy/literacy skills
The Nest is designed to offer a secure, and stimulating space where younger children can feel safe, valued, and supported as they explore and grow. We work closely with families to ensure that every child’s unique needs and interests are met, and we are proud of the strong relationships we build with both children and their parents or carers.
Our Environment
We aim to create a home-from-home atmosphere where children feel secure, respected, and valued. Our staff team provides a consistent, caring presence, building positive relationships with children and supporting their individual needs and interests.
Our setting is equipped with a wide variety of age-appropriate resources, and we regularly adapt our activity programme based on the children's interests and feedback.
Healthy Snacks
Nutritious snacks are provided during after-school sessions, promoting healthy eating habits and giving children the energy they need to enjoy their time with us.
Partnership with Families
We work closely with parents and carers to ensure consistency of care and to support each child’s overall well-being.
