Welcome to Potton Preschool

 

 

We are a charity run, Ofsted registered preschool in the lovely community town of Potton, Bedfordshire.  We offer places in our sessions to children aged between 2.5 and 4 years, and provide a safe and caring environment.

 

Potton Preschool was established in 1965, and has seen the children and grandchildren of many of Potton's families through its doors.  In January 2010, the preschool moved to a new, purpose-built premises, next door to Potton Lower School.  We are fortunate to have a light and spacious room and a safe, fenced-off lawn and hard area outside, which means that the children have plenty of space to play and explore, both indoors and out.  

 

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and our ethos of learning through play uses structured play activities to promote the development of gross and fine motor skills, a vital stepping stone to children successfully using writing tools.

 

We have adopted an approach to learning called the 'Curiosity Approach' where there is an emphasis on natural, open ended materials which encourage the children's imagination, for example a stick can become a wand, a spoon, or a sword, a wooden block can be a stepping stone, a brick to build a tower or create a path to a castle!  This approach develops a child's natural curiosity about the world around them and children develop skills such as problem solving and independent thinking.  

 

While playing and communicating, children are also socialising, learning about the world around them, appreciating and using number, shape and size and developing physical and creative skills.  Most important of all, however, is that they never stop having fun!

 

Our ongoing commitment to staff training ensures a balance of experience and the very latest approaches to preschool education.
